It’s tricky to talk about the dangers of dirty water without sounding like a patronising voiceover from an appeal fund, and it has a tendency to catch you somewhere between disgust and unutterable sympathy when you are told that more children globally die from diarrhoea caused by dirty water than HIV/AIDS, Measles and Malaria combined.
However, for a large proportion of the population in sub-Saharan Africa, sympathy is not what they are looking for, they are more interested in action, and that is exactly what Pump Aid is all about – providing water pumps and hygienic sanitation that is estimated to have the power to cut up to 88% of those aforementioned deaths.
So, knowing as we do, the immeasurable importance of water – it’s kind of our thing – Spabreaks.com have joined forces with Pump Aid to raise money for 15 Elephant Pumps and 125 toilets in 26 schools in Liberia and Malawi by asking you to design a shirt using the Pump Aid logo, in a competition that will see the winner awarded a weekend spa break for two worth £250, while 10 runners-up will also receive spa vouchers worth £20!
To get your creative juices flowing, the Spabreaks.com team have even come up with a collective design effort (above)!
