Perhaps the most striking thing about Bryn Meadows Golf, Hotel and Spa is its location. It has a sense of being in the middle of nowhere thanks to the surrounding Brecon Beacons which can be seen from everywhere you go in the spa and hotel. It’s extremely quiet, and wherever you go, it’s green!
The hotel is small, but certainly uses the space to optimum effect. It is very much somewhere to come and spend time together, making it great for couples. In the rooms, you are always going to have the added benefit of a good view as if you are not looking out onto the general country landscape you will probably find yourself looking at the surrounding golf course instead.
Again, it’s a small space, but that hasn’t affected the range of facilities – it has still managed to fit in a gym, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, hydro spa and a pool, which like so many other areas in the hotel has a glass surround, so again the view is all part of the atmosphere. The treatment rooms are quite dark, in contrast to the wet facilities, adding a different dimension to the relaxation vibe. Perhaps most impressive of all however, is the rasul,
which crystallises Bryn Meadows as a couple’s retreat.
As a result of the golf and spa element, Blas restaurant has a very casual atmosphere – it’s almost more like a lounge, and food reflects the area with a Welsh theme using local ingredients.
As I have already mentioned, the hotel is set in the Brecon Beacons, and views extend across the Five Valleys. All of this is an important part of the character of the place, and really sets the tone for your visit – it is all about escapism. That said, it is also just 25 miles from Cardiff, so if you do fancy combining your visit with a few city attractions, then you certainly can. Either way, you really are well advised to take the car!
Bryn Meadows is very much a hidden Welsh gem for grown-ups. They offer wonderful service and a romantic environment at a reasonable price. I wouldn’t recommend it as a place for children or families however – mums and dads, use time here as something just for you!
– Use the rasul – it is the very core of the spa experience – cleanse, detox and enjoy!
– Upgrade your room – especially in the summer months – to a room with a balcony so you can really get the most out of the view.
– Take the car – Cardiff may only be 25 miles away but the hotel is in a remote location, and getting here without one will definitely be tricky!
