“What would I change? Absolutely nothing.” Super Spabreaker, Catherine Gladwyn, visits city spa, The Scotsman , in Edinburgh!
The Scotsman! Wow! I combined this stay with a four day trip to Edinburgh with my running club and took part in the 10k race, so a stay at The Scotsman the day after was the perfect way to recuperate. I am so lucky to have stayed here; I will probably never have this opportunity again so the memories will stay with me forever.
The Scotsman was once the Scotsman Newspaper building, built in 1905, and features impressive external architecture and a sense of history on the inside too. We arrived way before check in time as we were told we could drop our bags off and explore the city, so we did! Then within 30 minutes we were called to say they had our room ready. Throughout our stay it was apparent that nothing was too much trouble.
Tastefully decorated with a real sense of Scotland throughout, the building looks and feels like a warm, welcoming hotel, but you can still feel the sense and presence of those who worked there when it was The Scotsman newspaper head office. Whoever was the interior designer here, I want to next win a competition for them to do my house. Our room was enormous, with enough room to relax and sleep. We were lucky to enough to have a bay fronted bedroom with spectacular views over the city.
The spa area is clean and well presented with a lovely pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna, with a number of beds to relax on. We had our treatments, which were wonderful. Just 25 minutes each, and the effects lasted all day!
North Bridge Brasserie would have once been the main reception entrance to the newspaper office and wow it’s impressive! Lots of wood and marble, and you can almost imagine the hustle and bustle of the editor and his staff rushing around. The food, prepared by Paul Hart, their Executive Head Chef, is exquisite.
Situated perfectly on the North Bridge, The Scotsman is just a short walk from the railway station and two seconds walk to the famous Royal Mile.
Without a doubt this is one of the best hotels I have stayed in. Service is second to none and you are treated well by everyone you come across. The staff are attentive, individually catering and can’t do enough for you.
– If you can, stay here and do it for more than one night!
