Visiting the gorgeous Pennyhill Park Hotel and Spa, this week our Super Spabreaker reports back on the largest spa in the UK …
As we approached Pennyhill Park Hotel, up the winding tree-lined drive, it was clear this place was somewhere special. The hotel had the Great Gatsby feel of a bygone age with guests wandering around in white fluffy dressing gowns and lounging by the pool consuming a lot of champagne. The staff were attentive and friendly and genuinely appeared to enjoy their jobs and their working environment. How could they not?
Our room was in a separate building from the main reception, and all the rooms were individually named, ours being Ellis Park; a huge room with a four-poster bed and vast windows overlooking the pools and spa. The room also had a minstrel’s gallery with a desk, a nice addition for the business guest. The opulent bathroom was beautifully tiled with a roll-top bath, walk-in shower, double sinks, and a thoughtful array of complimentary products.
The 45,000 sq ft spa is both vast and luxurious. Located over several floors it is at times confusing (we forgot to take the map with us) but the choice of indoor and outdoor space as well as mixed and single sex areas offered a relaxing and varied experience. The Orange Blossom and Grapefruit facial and warming stones treatments were thoroughly enjoyable in tranquil rooms with competent therapists. The real highlight for us however were the changing rooms; so luxurious and well equipped, we could have just spent our day there!
Located off reception and through the Piano Bar, the Brasserie restaurant offered a wide range of excellent food. Seated by the window and overlooking the beautiful grounds, we enjoyed watching personal trainers put recruits through their paces whilst we tucked in to our pudding.
What really makes Pennyhill Park Hotel special is its location and outside space; the pool area, bar, and BBQ (on a sunny day) help transport you to almost anywhere in the world.
Having visited Pennyhill Park Hotel it is evident why it is highly regarded and the spa has won so many awards. A night there felt not just like a spa break but an actual holiday.
