Make-up is such a personal thing. It is one of those areas of your beauty routine that we are either constantly changing because we can never find the perfect fit, or something that we find and stick to with more determination than a dog with a bone.
The reason of course, that it is such an area of interest for us all, is that more often than not it is our armour against the world. It is the bronzer that we often feel gives you the power to command boardrooms, the lip gloss that we think allows us to navigate the worlds of dating, working, and the school run, answer Facebook messages with one hand while conducting witty 140 character repartee via Twitter with the other, and of course, a jolly good concealer that permits us to stomach public transport with a hangover. Hell, I know women who won’t even go to Tescos without their make-up on when they have run out of milk in the morning, even though their chosen outfit for the same trip is a pair of slippers and pyjama trousers that have been a winter favourite since the mid ‘90s.
No wonder then, that it’s an area of such great and personal importance.
Now everyone has their own preference about the finishing touches, but it generally goes without saying that you want base make-up to give the impression that you are the type of individual who naturally glows even at silly-o-clock in the morning. I have a couple of staple favourites that go some way to working along these lines (although miracles are hard to come by), and despite falling into the category of the obstinate individual clinging for dear life to a favourite brand, Mii Minerals is definitely one that can turn a girl’s head.
Trying out their Beautiful Basics collection, which has the added bonus of coming as a gift box complete with base, blush, two eye shadows and brushes as well (it would look beautiful wrapped up under a Christmas tree). There is a choice of five colour palettes to suit different skin tones, and it comes with a little guide on application.
The products themselves are just lovely – there is no other way to describe them. In the pot, I grant you, I thought the rosy hued blusher was going to make me look like I had applied Duluxe emulsion, but once applied it has a gentle colour that actually makes you look healthy (a novelty at this time of the year). The base powder gives remarkably good coverage on any uneven tones without feeling as though you have plastered on product – you do have to be a little careful with dry skin as, as with any powder, it can give you away, but it actually blends in incredibly well. Likewise, the eyeshadows combine a natural look with just the right amount of definition, and applied with brushes that are wonderfully soft (anyone who has used sub standard make-up brushes will know that good ones are a luxury worth paying for), can be used to both daytime and evening effects.
Best of all, at £55 for the set (four products and two brushes), it is a very ‘good value’ present, and one that will see the recipient/ you through for a good while … so, who wants one? Check out our Twitter feed @spabreaks today to be in with a chance to win!
