What exactly is the facial?
It’s a 60-minute facial and it starts with a cleanse using an oil based product. Then there is an exfoliation using five red fruits. A signature Thai massage follows to stimulate blood flow (this is the most important part of the treatment) followed by a hydration mask. Finally the aftercare products are applied – the eye cream, lip balm and hydration serum.
Where does it come from?
It’s like any facial but the difference is in the high-end products – PanPuri. It is a Thai brand offering the best of Eastern botanical ingredients in high quality skincare and aromatherapy products. The brand and the treatment are unique to us in Ireland, and when therapists are trained the trainer comes from Thailand. PanPuri is a high performance, natural product line based on pure plant extracts and essential oils that are carefully blended to create powerful synergies. It’s free from silicones, synthetic fragrances, colours and dyes.
What is it supposed to do?
It leaves the skin immediately appearing younger, firmer, and more luminous. The treatment fights against free radicals and ageing while boosting hydration thanks to the main ingredient, a white Jasmine blossom essence from a legendary Thai flower that’s rich in antioxidants and amino acids to leave moisture in skin. There are five red fruits in it as well, which are a rich natural source for fighting free radicals.
Is there anything you do to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment?
We place clients on a heated bed, and you are given robes and slippers so you feel relaxed before the treatment starts. At the beginning of the treatment you have a ‘welcome touch’, which is a foot cleanse with hot mitts and lime oil. While you have your treatment we heat your slippers so that when you get off the bed your feet are warm. At the end of the treatment you go to the relaxation area and are served a Signature Refreshment Plate from a selection, which you choose before the treatment – for example if you choose a Tropical plate then you will get pineapple juice and a passion fruit and coconut sorbet.
Is there anything you recommend clients to do pre or post-treatment to get the most out of it?
We offer guests the opportunity to use our thermal facilities when they book a treatment so we recommend using those beforehand to relax and open up the pores. We also advise that you allow time afterwards to enjoy the relaxation area. PanPuri also offers wonderful massage treatments designed to relax mind and body leaving you feel the benefits in your muscles thanks to a combination of firm techniques and attention to pressure points. Finally, we have a beautiful retail range including Femme Fatale candles which are named after historical women – there are 10 such as Scarlett O’Hara, Marilyn Monroe, and Marie Antoinette – they are beautiful gifts for you or a friend and in Europe they are really only available from The Shelbourne hotel and Harrods.
Is there anyone you particularly recommend the treatment for?
It’s great for all skin types, even oily skin. It’s also wonderful for anti-ageing but you can have it at any age as it works to restore your natural best and improve your overall complexion.
Is there anyone who shouldn’t have this treatment and why?
If you have any allergies then it is recommended you speak to the therapist first, but it’s very rare to have an allergy to essential oils. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a serious illness then you would need to speak to your therapist and your doctor before booking.
