Figuring out where to go when you first arrive at Kenwick Park requires a small amount of insider knowledge – the driveway splits in two with the less conspicuous route leading to the hotel and the larger drive leading straight to the lodge accommodation. You need to head to the hotel first to check in and then drive over to your lodge, which incidentally will be beautiful.
There are rooms in the hotel, but the majority of accommodation is in the aforementioned lodges within the hotel grounds. They are about a 15-minute walk from the main building, (which houses the restaurant and spa and so forth) or a short drive, but there is a complementary taxi service available to take you to and fro as you wish. The lodges themselves are lovely – very modern, and up to three bedrooms (sleeping up to eight people), complete with a living/dining area, kitchenette, bathroom and a private outdoor space with table and chairs for the summer months.
Back by the main hotel building, you walk into the spa and are greeted by the reception and café area which overlooks the pool through a large, glass window. Here you can have tea and cake before or after spending time using the leisure facilities and heading upstairs where there are eight treatment rooms including two dual suites, one of which is used for colour therapy. There are manicure and pedicure stations, and the relaxation room is exceptionally pretty thanks to lots of little decorative lights and throws to cuddle up in on the beds.
The bar and restaurant are combined in a very casual setting so you don’t need to dress up for dinner, a nice extension of the wider relaxation experience. The food is lovely; a lot of thought has gone into it and the service is fantastic.
Although not far from a number of towns in the Lincolnshire area, staying in the lodges makes you feel a hundred miles from anywhere and gives the impression of being on a proper holiday. I would however take a car in order to get there as it’s a little inconvenient by public transport.
It’s an ideal destination for groups because of the lodge accommodation where you can hire DVDs and really settle down for a cosy night in with friends. That said it also works well for couples wanting to completely escape from the outside world!
– Make a break of it and stay for two nights.
– Borrow a DVD from the hotel and snuggle up after your spa day.
– Try colour therapy as an alternative to the more usual spa treatments!
