What exactly is the treatment?
The whole treatment is 80 minutes long including the consultation and aftercare. We try to personalise the treatment, picking an oil specific to the client. It’s very relaxing rather than being for muscle tension, focusing on chakra points. We massage with warm oil and pour it onto the centre of the body – so onto the tummy on the front, and the middle of the back. We then do a full body massage. We sweep and stretch the muscles in an upwards motion in the direction of the blood flow, and we use hot stones which adds to the relaxation.
Where does it come from?
It’s an ESPA treatment but the techniques stem from Native American practices.
What is it supposed to do?
The whole thing is about pure relaxation. We have six different aromatherapy oils to choose from so clients can choose the blend that they want to tie in with whatever concern they have.
Is there anything you do to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment?
If there are particular tensions and muscular concerns that clients want to address then we can adapt the treatment accordingly. We also warm the oils. It’s completely different to any other treatment that we do – it’s not like an ordinary aromatherapy massage. It is a full body treatment and clients can feel quite exposed so we take great care to make sure they are comfortable throughout.
Is there anything you recommend clients to do pre or post-treatment to get the most out of it?
Our consultation and aftercare are really important – in the consultation we talk about lifestyle and why they chose the treatment. Afterwards it’s best not to do anything too strenuous – no exercise, and drink lots of water because it can be dehydrating. Leave the aromatherapy oils on for as long as possible.
Is there anyone you particularly recommend the treatment for?
It’s great for men and women, although men often want a slightly deeper tissue massage so we can adapt it for that. It’s best for anyone who has a stressful job or for anyone who has a lot of spa treatments and is looking for something different.
Is there anyone who shouldn’t have this treatment and why?
If you are pregnant, have cancer, have a heart condition, or any major allergies to the aromatherapy oils then we can just use a nourishment oil instead. If you do have any medical concerns we always ask for a doctor’s note.
