#BeKindToYou Body Story … Lydia Baylis

For our 2014 Women’s Wellness Week, singer, Lydia Baylis explains why her hair is her favourite body part and why!

I have always had very long, very thick hair. Wavy, but not curly, it was difficult to wash, brush, dry and style growing up. I hated it as a girl, finding mornings with my mother brushing and plaiting it torturous and evenings leaning over the bath getting the last of the conditioner out tedious. As a teenager I lamented that it wasn’t straight and sleek and manageable.

At 19 I was then at a party in New York, and a women came up behind me and held a chunk of my hair in her hand.  “You have the most beautiful hair”, she said and walked away. The man I was with said, “Do you know who that is?”. I didn’t. “That was Lauren Bacall”. From that moment I started to see it differently.

The older I get – the more I love it. It’s healthy, and buoyant and unusual. From being something I wanted to hide, it is now that thing that I like to show off the most!
