Well, author Marneta Viegas has the answer with her book Pants of Peace . Teaching kids the art of mindfulness, the book offers tips on meditation for children, breathing exercises, visualization, and also confidence.
Ideas include telling children that they have a ‘button of brilliance’ which tells them to imagine that everything they say or do is brilliant (the cynic in me can’t help but feel that this is an idea that should be used sparingly), a cloak of protection to help them deal with any nasty words cast their way, and a confidence switch – which is probably quite self explanatory.
Mindfulness is a bit of a buzzword these days, but Viegas makes a good point – in amongst all of the digital distractions and performance pressures at school, kids have just as many stresses as the fully-grown amongst us. It’s hard even as adults to achieve a sense of ongoing level-headedness and calm, so the younger we can start learning, the better. And what better time to relax than when you’ve got the time to do it?
Plus any book that creates an idea as amusing as ‘pants of peace’ has got to be worth a read!
