Mum and fashion designer Jo-Anne Rossell likes nice underwear, but getting tired of feeling that it was a choice between style and comfort she has now set out on her own, launching her own seriously comfortable, super stylish underwear that means we can all say goodbye to underwire irritation…
What are you up to at the moment?
There is a lot going on at the moment, as well as putting SS16 production into work and working on next season’s designs which will be shown at a trade fair in Paris in January. We are also casting for next season’s model. We have to do several photoshoots for the website, product shots and look book, all with different photographers and locations. We are also working hard to complete the website.
Where do your ideas come from?
I have always been inspired by all things graphic, photographic and architectural, sometimes bold, sometimes soft. I love playing with lines on the body and have always started a design directly on the form and then sketched it. The SS16 collection has largely come from photos I’ve taken of Pylons, they are such amazing structures and create different angles, spaces and lines as you move around them.
Who’s your role model?
It would be an amalgamation of people, my dad for his passion and drive and my mum for her strength and stamina. I look up to people that stay true to themselves.
What’s your earliest memory that inspired your work?
Probably being so little in a car that the only thing I could see out of the top window was the pylons flashing past, they’ve always fascinated me.
Do you have a favourite piece in your collection?
It’s probably the triangle bra which I haven’t actually put into production. I think it’s my favourite because I spent so much time getting the fit and the lines right. It’s 100% cotton (which I love) and is the master pattern that I base all of my bra styles on.
What’s the biggest lesson you have learned so far?
I’m currently trying to learn the art of not worrying about what’s ahead, worrying too much causes unnecessary stress and is exhausting! I am trying to learn to deal with each day in hand, get the facts and resolve a problem. Tomorrow is a fresh day.
When you’re not working on being the next big thing, what do you do to relax?
I like to do yoga and go for walks along a sea front.
We encourage everyone to do one thing each week to be kind to themselves, what are you going to do this week to #bekindtoyou?
Light a candle and enjoy a deep, hot bubble bath.
