After most family holidays we feel like we need another break to recover, but after a family spa break kids of all ages get to feel happy, relaxed and ready to take on the world. Here’s what you need to do…

1) Chill out by the beach at Fowey Hall
It is appropriate that this former family mansion was once a favourite haunt of Wind in the Willows author Kenneth Grahame. It’s believed he may have based the famous characters on this very place. In addition to beautiful grounds (complete with a trampoline) and proximity to the beach, the hotel caters to families (dogs included). There’s a games rooms and crèche facilities (so mum and dad can enjoy the spa in peace). There’s a breakfast club on Sundays in the holidays where nannies will take the children to collect eggs from the chickens while you enjoy your newspaper and morning coffee.

2) Get back to nature at Woolley Grange
Another venue that’s part of the Luxury Family Hotel group is Woolley Grange. It is a Jacobean mansion surrounded by 14 acres of grounds and extols the virtues of the Good Life. There’s a grass maze to get lost in, eggs to collect from the ducks and chickens. There’s a children’s club to book the children into while you chill out by the fire or head to the spa. Bring the kids and the dog and simply enjoy the peace of the countryside in Brandford-on-Avon.

3) Golf and games at Celtic Manor
Best known for its wealth of golf and spa facilities, Celtic Manor is a huge destination with ample grounds to explore for all ages. It goes without saying that the golf course is dad’s playground, and maybe mums as well. The spa provides welcome downtime, but there’s also crazy golf for the children to get involved with, as well as archery, forest walking, and of course the swimming pool. From personal experience we can say that Celtic Manor is one of those places that makes a family getaway a relaxing joy for everyone!

4) Sport and spa at Foxhills
This beautiful Surrey hotel is a five star destination that welcomes families. While the spa itself is only for those aged 16 and over, there is a separate Youth Club building. It is complete with a junior pool, soft play area, den and lots of sports activities. It’s a family run business so they really understand what you’re after on your getaway, and of course there’s a family friendly restaurant where the food is spectacular!

5) Curling in Kinross at The Green
Surrounded by 5000 acres of countryside, The Green Hotel is a Scottish escape on the banks of Loch Leven. Here you can play tennis if the weather permits, borrow bicycles, go fishing and even enjoy a spot of curling. Fun, freedom and plenty of fresh air on a holiday at The Green – what more could you ask for!?
