Savill Court – I have actually been going pretty much every month for the last two and a half years. It’s a pact that my friends and I have; we have known one another for 30 years and we’ve gone through a lot together. I had ill health a few year ago and it made us re-evaluate a few things. Sometimes there’s up to 16 of us that go, sometimes it’s just two, this time there were five of us.
Savill Court is down the road from me, and it’s the best spa we’ve been to. They just do a really good package and service right through to the treatments. The staff are amazing, which helps. I think they’ve really got it right. I have a one-hour full body massage and I try my best to get Nicole because she’s brilliant – I’ve told her boss. I must admit, I try to have a massage regularly because part of my re-evaluation was that I realised I wasn’t looking after the inner me.
I had a stressful job, and as women we tend to always put ourselves last but sometimes something happens that makes you put yourself first once in awhile. Massage is my favourite treatment, and if it has hot stones then all the better. Before I was ill I probably went once a year – there just never seemed to be time. I know it sounds cheesy but my mantra now is that in my 40s I’ve realised it’s my life and I should do some of that living for me.
You should make time for yourself because no one’s going to do it for you. These days I make cakes, I make sure I get at least an hour a day that’s just for me, doing yoga, walking the dog – it’s what women don’t do well.
Since I’ve been going I have recommended it to everyone. I have seen couples there and what I think is nice about it, is it’s quite a small set up. It’s intimate, a combination of members and people visiting for a spa day.
I have seen couples there and it’s good for them, if I’m honest there are children sometimes, but that’s part of life and it’s not in your face. Sometimes in big places you get swallowed up in that corporate thing, but here you get a very personal service, like a family run environment, even though it’s not.
I think the thing is that it’s so easy. In the past we would have met after work, had dinner and too much to drink and headed home to fall into bed. I think the spa thing means that we can spend more time talking to each other in a more comfortable environment when we’re all chilled out, and you end up feeling better at the end of it all. It’s just time for us – sitting and being, no kids, no husbands, no emails, no phones, just time with friends and undivided attention with people you’ve chosen to spend the day with.
Make time for yourself. I know people are body conscious, but everybody is at a spa for the same reasons you are. I have scars but I’m not looking at other peoples’, and they’re not looking at me. I can’t think of a bad thing about it. I think people do have reservations but I would say go and enjoy it!
I’m a chicken keeper, which makes me sound mad but it’s the best fun. I also have dogs and I love walking them around the lakes and woods around Windsor – it’s just me and my wellies.
