They are spa treatments like no other, the kind that have you taking limitless selfies afterwards such are the miraculous results.

At The Lowry Hotel in Manchester their QMS Skin Spa treatments are the pinnacle of results driven skincare therapies.  This is how they work, as their spa manager explains…

What exactly is the treatment?

The QMS Skin Spa Treatments at the Lowry Hotel are like no other. I like to call them the new way to spa.  We have a 15-minute consultation with every guest at the start of the treatment where we go through the history of the products and talk to our guests about their concerns and what they would like to achieve.

Our therapists then diagnose your skin type and prescribe the best facial or body treatment accordingly. We then use different techniques and products to achieve their desired results. For facials we use algae masks, which are very calming, soothing and moisturising. We also use oxygen machines in our treatments; our Lowry Signature Facial is 80 minutes of pure relaxation for example. It’s great for targeting premature ageing and cell regeneration.

Where does it come from?

Dr. med. Erich Schulte is one of Europe’s leading skincare experts and the founder of QMS Medicosmetics. In the 1970s he worked at the Maxillo Facial Department for reconstructive plastic surgery at the Gottingen University Clinic in Germany. His patients were mainly severe accident and burns victims. At the time, surgery could lead to the reconstruction of the shape of the face but skin remained scarred and damaged.

Through research, Dr. med. Erich Schulte found that collagen was highly significant in wound healing. He realised that if he could find a way to reintroduce collagen to the skin, scar formation would be reduced and skin could be regenerated.  This insight formed the basis of the QMS Medicosmetics brand, which he created in 1986.

What is it supposed to do?

Skin is affected by many factors including external aggressors such as climate and air quality. With the QMS Skin Spa Signature Treatment a key concern addressed in the treatment is the impact of urban pollution.

Pollutants increase the number of free radicals in the air, reduce the oxygen supply and can cause environmentally induced reactions. It is also the second biggest cause of skin ageing. Although Manchester is a temperate climate, it can be prone to humidity, this influences the skin making it more susceptible to impurities and potentially irritation.

With this high-impact facial a deep double pore cleanse and exfoliation rebalances the skin and prepares it for the application of natural soluble collagens. These provide multiple benefits to the skin’s tone and health. Anti-oxidant rich wellness masks help to soothe and calm the skin whilst strengthening its defenses against environmental aggressors.

Is there anything you recommend clients to do pre or post-treatment to get the most out of it?

Just come along, relax and invest time in yourself.

Is there anyone you particularly recommend the treatment for?

The treatments are for anyone of any age or gender.

Is there anyone who shouldn’t have this treatment and why?

No this is the nice thing about these treatments, there are no contraindications.
