Who wants to bathe in maple syrup?

Not only is it Friday, but it’s also the Easter Bank Holiday weekend and so it appears that all things sweet are on our mind, not least of all, maple syrup.

maple syrup

Just when you thoughts the peripheries of the world of spa couldn’t get any more peculiar (remember the spa theme park?), Japan is now going all out with a hot tub full of maple syrup.

Yyyyyyyyup, this is your chance to soak in a bath full of maple syrup and vanilla scented water. That’s if you’re bored of the sake bath that it’s next to at the Hakone Kowakien Yunessun Spa in the Kanagawa Prefecture.

We would love to tell you that maple syrup had some sort of miraculous skin healing properties, much like the latest Nutella face mask phase supposedly inspired by Kate Middleton, but in truth, this is just the mad inner workings of someone who simply couldn’t get enough of maple syrup on their pancakes. Basically, this is just about utter decadence… and maybe a hint at some sort of fetish.

The method to the madness comes from the fact that this hot tub is to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Moringa Hot Cake Mix, and is in fact a pop up that’s only open until 25th April. They haven’t stopped at syrup though, if you don’t have a particularly sweet tooth, there are also baths filled with red wine, coffee, green tea, chocolate or ramen.

Well, it’s certainly a talking point, albeit a sticky one.

What would you put in yours?
