There are fresh flowers everywhere you go, which really makes a difference to the feel of a place, giving it a professional but cared for vibe. When we checked in we were greeted with a glass of Prosecco and Quality Street chocolates which was a particularly lovely touch – what more could a guest want?
All the staff are Scottish and are super friendly; they are so effusive about their golfing history and you get a sense of Scottish pride wherever you go, which is lovely to be a part of. The newly designed rooms are a delight – contemporary and stylish, they have a sense of space and spectacular views across the surrounding golf course. It’s perfect for a romantic weekend away with your other half in refined and understated luxury.
This was the real jewel in the crown at Old Course Hotel and Spa. Kohler Waters Spa won Best Hotel Spa at the Good Spa Awards and for good reason. There are 12 treatment rooms, a beautiful pool with a waterfall at one end, a separate thermal suite area with a large hydrotherapy pool, a rooftop Jacuzzi overlooking the town of St Andrews and a lovely relaxation area, but what makes it exceptional is the design and attention to detail.
There are six dining options at the hotel, which really is decadent including a fine dining restaurant with three AA awards to its name. Breakfast was incredible with multiple choices available including haggis and amazing hash browns – a favourite. The views from the breakfast room overlook the golf course and miles and miles of beautiful beach; it’s just perfect! Upstairs on the fourth floor is a charming whisky bar, which again overlooks the golf course, with live music every Friday and Saturday night.
Until you visit, you have no idea how close this hotel is to the beach, which for those of us who like nothing more than the feeling of sand between our toes, is a major plus. Located in the Kingdom of Fife, views of the golf course and surrounding countryside are at all angles, making it an amazing option for all couples or groups who love the golf and spa feel of being by the sea.
We really couldn’t have been more delighted with our visit to Old Course Hotel and Spa. It’s a refined and charming venue with all the best elements of an elegant hotel with contemporary hospitality. While it’s wonderful for groups because of the space, and they do welcome families, we think it’s particularly perfect for couples looking for a romantic break and a little time to feel completely looked after.
