It is the third year in a row that the beachside haven has taken the title in the World Travel Awards, a prestigious ceremony with an international jury of hospitality experts and peers, mainly form World Travel and Tourism Council, who come together to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries.
The resort is known as a romantic as well as family-friendly destination, made up of a series of luxury villas with private pools and terraces all overhanging the sea. It is known for going the extra mile in everything it does, as well as making full use of its spectacular location.
Some of our own favourite features include the ritual for feeding the sharks every night around 7pm; the bottle of Champagne that’s included in the all inclusive stays; your own private sun beds on the beach, allocated by room number so you never have to hunt for one; the little black boxes dotted around the beach (approx after every three sets of sun beds), housing ice cold drinks for you to help yourself to; and the glass floors in the spa treatment rooms so you can look at the sea underneath you as you have your treatments!
This year the awards celebrated its 25th year with events around the world. The WTA Africa & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony 2018 was celebrated in Durban, in a red carpet event on 6th October at the Durban ICC. The state-of-the-art beachfront venue was opened by the late Nelson Mandela in 1997.
In advance of the event Graham E. Cooke, Founder & President of the WTA, said: “It is with great anticipation that we return to the Durban ICC for the third time to host our African & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony 2018. I am honoured that this world-class convention centre, which has staged some of the world’s most prestigious events, is forming part of our 25th anniversary of celebrating travel industry excellence. I look forward to joining all our nominees for what promises to be a fabulous night.”
On celebrating their award, Sarah Forster, Sales Manager at Lily Beach Resort & Spa, had this to say:
