Bowood is an immaculate, 18th-century estate, home to the Petty-Fitzmaurice family since 1754, and the seat of the Marquess of Lansdowne since 1774. Famous for its beautiful gardens as well as spectacular architecture, it's against this backdrop that you will find Bowood Hotel. A contemporary retreat that complements its heritage surroundings, it's a four-star, luxury destination with 42 rooms and suites, many of which overlook the 18-hole golf course. Inside it combines a modern palette of greys and jewel tones with the grandeur of huge swathes of fabric and enormous pelmets. Everything feels spacious with high ceilings throughout, and lots of natural light.
Dining at Bowood is fit for a king, whether you choose to have a drink or two on the Clubhouse Bar's terrace, a three-course meal in the Shelburne Restaurant, or afternoon tea in the cosy library. The Shelburne Restaurant has two AA-Rosette awards for its seasonal fare and elegant surroundings. It's run by Executive Head Chef, Rupert Taylor, and serves everything from locally sourced Wiltshire breakfasts, to hearty Sunday lunches, and classic evening meals. The Clubhouse Bar is set within the Golf Clubhouse, serving a casual, Mediterranean menu with parkland views. Of course, there's nothing quite like a quintessentially British afternoon tea in the Library.
