- When was Tylney Hall built?
Tylney Hall has an impressive history. Records show that a property has existed on the site since 1561, although the main house wasn't built until 1700. The Tylney family line died out in 1725 and the property was passed to different cousins. The property was demolished by one descendent, but the estate was bought by Sir Lionel Philips in 1898 and redeveloped to become the property we know today and based on a 16th-century model. It became a hospital in the First World War, a Headquarters for Lord Rotherwick's shipping interests in the Second World War, and a school in 1948. In 1985 it was finally refurbished to become a hotel and restaurant, and that's the destination we know and love today.

Outside is a pool sheltered by a walled garden (open from May - September), a tennis court, jogging trails and a croquet lawn, while inside there is another pool, a gym and Molton Brown toiletries.

A Grade II listed building surrounded by 66 acres of parkland; Tylney Hall is a Victorian mansion richly referencing its past throughout in the form of original design features. The Forbes recognised hotel has 112 rooms and suites, many of which also enjoy scenic views of the Hampshire countryside, flanked by two lines of mature Redwoods leading to the horizon. Afternoon tea is a must at Tylney Hall, in the Grey Lounge that is characterised by a Rococo feel thanks to the pale blue walls and ornate cornicing. Drinks are served in the old library, which in winter is accompanied by the crackle of logs burning in the marble fireplace, while dinner is served in the Oak Room Restaurant along with views of the gardens.
