The 16th century estate is steeped in history, retaining its architectural prowess. From the 15th century the property was owned by the brilliantly named Lestrange family (no Harry Potter relations as far as we're aware). Over the years it was developed into the illustrious place it is today, ultimately owned by Lord Field who sold it to entertainer Danny La Rue. After a fiendish background involving divorce scandals, aristocratic ascendance and two Canadian con men, it eventually became a hotel, and is now part of the Accor Hotels group.

Based around the 16th-century property, the hotel has 197 rooms, including 11 fully serviced apartments, in a series of buildings adjacent to the traditional manor house. The contemporary Walton Hotel itself consists of 149 standard double and twin rooms, while a further 19 are located in The Coach House, just a short walk from reception. The hotel’s 37 superior rooms and suites are then located in the 16th century Hall itself.
