A market town in the West Midlands, Walsall is a central point in the area between Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Lichfield. As a result, visitors to the area find themselves in a remarkably convenient location, within easy reach of lots of places to go and things to do on a spa break.
The area made its name historically through trade, famous for its leather goods (the Queen’s handbags, saddles and other royal leatherwoods are still largely from here). Before that, its heritage lay largely in the coal mines, although its first mentions go as far back as the early 11th century.
Today its top attractions offer a diverse range of places to go and things to see. The contemporary New Art Gallery is popular both for its inspiring architecture and its installations. The Victorian park, Walsall Arboretum is a tranquil place for a walk and for children to play. In keeping with its heritage, there’s the Walsall Leather Museum, and children find a ride on the Chasewater Railway steam engines highly entertaining. At the other end of the spectrum, there’s an indoor go karting track, boat trips on the Wyrley and Essington canal, and more besides.
Spas in the surrounding area give visitors the chance to truly relax and unwind in style. About an hour away, Hoar Cross Hall is a magnificent and historic country house hotel with an award-winning adult-only spa. The Belfry in Sutton Coldfield is a favourite spa destination for fun and relaxation with friends thanks to its onsite nightclub and championship golf courses. Meanwhile, QHotels – Telford Hotel and Golf Resort has something for everyone, bringing fun and relaxation together in spa experiences.
