- When was Crabwall Manor Hotel & Spa built?
Crabwall Manor is a Grade II listed building with a history dating back more than 900 years. The earliest mention of it is around 1066, and from around 1268 it was connected with a long line of mayors of Chester. Having had just two changes of ownership in nearly 800 years, during the First and Second World Wars the house was used as a hospital, and between 1960-1985 it became a club.
In 1985 Carl Lewis, a local businessman and restaurateur, purchased the house at auction and turned it into a hotel, opening to guests in May 1987. Marston Hotels purchased Crabwall Manor in August 2000 and continued to invest in it, as did a succession of owners until it was bought by the current owners.
