With 150 years of health-dedicated history behind it, Crieff Hydro welcomed its first guests in 1868 under the guidance of Dr. Thomas H. Meikle and his Victorian assertion that a dip in freezing cold water had no end of benefits. Today the ethos has altered somewhat as have the facilities, but the goal and the presiding family, now in its fifth generation, have remained the same. While outside activities range from golf to tennis and more, inside there is a leisure club and spa, each with their own atmosphere. The leisure club includes saunas, steam rooms and spa baths, a 20 metre pool (which allows children), a gym and a fitness studio that offers a schedule of classes as well as more than 1700 virtual classes.
Meanwhile, the spa area and hair salon sit separately and are havens of tranquility. Using Decleor products to offer everything from a full body aromatherapy massage to an express facial. They also use the beautiful Aromatherapy Associates line for therapies including hot stone treatments with aromatherapy oils, nails, waxing, make-up or even a product or two to take home with you are also part of the experience, and you can finish it all off with blow-dries, styling, colouring and a new make-up counter in the hair salon.
A stately hotel in the heart of Perthshire, Crieff Hydro is a historic hotel in the Scottish countryside surrounded by a spectacular 900 acres of grounds. Thanks to a longstanding history in hospitality and extensive renovations in recent years, they have paid careful attention to the details that welcome guests for all ages and occasions. As such, the stylish and sumptuous rooms and suites welcome couples on romantic breaks as well as families looking to spend quality time together. The Victorian country house has accommodation that ranges from Standard Rooms to Family Suites and Studios with self-catering accommodation available as well.
Continuing with the all-encompassing theme, there are also six dining options available, depending on whether you’re in the mood for grilled asparagus and the pan-seared seabass or burgers all round. Perhaps you will opt for breakfast at Meikle (named for the location’s founder), coffee, cakes and lunch in the Winter Garden, casual Italian inspired dining on the Terrace, sandwiches and soup at The Hub, an evening of Asian Flavours at EAST, or a quick bite and a cuppa at Basecamp Action Glen’s Bar and Cafe. The choice is yours.
