The Roman style Utopia Spa at the Rowhill Grange Hotel is Kent’s best kept secret. Tucked away down a winding driveway, the 19th century converted summer house boasts a 21st century spa with a neo-classical style pool, Jacuzzi, therapy pool, steam room and sauna complete with a waterfall for added effect. There is also a small, but well equipped gym for the most energetic visitors, and 21 treatment rooms including dual rooms.
The impressive list of treatments uses the Temple Spa product range – recommended for its exclusivity and organic ingredients, while treatments themselves include everything from facials and manicures to non-surgical facelifts, and a knowledgeable team of staff on hand to offer advice as to what will suit you.
As a luxury spa, Rowhill Grange is meticulous in ensuring that guests have the ultimate in relaxing visits; as such they are careful to avoid overcrowding in the pool, and the spa is not open to those under the age of 18.

Nestled in Kent countryside, Rowhill Grange Hotel & Utopia Spa is just 30 minutes from London and offers all the four star amenities you’d expect from this 19th century manor house. Benefitting from the ethos of a boutique hotel despite being part of a group, the 38 rooms including a collection of newly refurbished rooms, are each named after different flowers and are reminiscent of a doll’s house in their individual, sumptuous décor.
Rowhill Grange boasts a range of dining experiences from afternoon tea in their collection of gorgeous lounges or served al fresco on the terrace, to 2 AA Rosette fine dining at RG’s, or their slightly less informal Elements Lounge.

My spa experience was horrible. To start with they have booked us on the day of the departure. We meant to do the check out at 11:00 and we had just one hour in the spa from 10:00 but they charge a lot of money for this and had to be rushed around with everything. Barely had time for a quick shower.
I had a treatment booked, the therapist didn’t looked that she knew what she was doing, I was left in a horrible state after a facial. Not mentioning that they have mixed up the treatments, I meant to have done a sophisticated treatment and my friend just a facial and they have done a BIG Cockup and I had done what my friend meant to have done and other way around. My face was just absolutely red and horrible after this. The therapist wasn’t talking with me to tell what was she putting on. After this facial I still had make up on. Absolutely horrible. I would never come back to have a facial done there.
We enjoyed a very relaxing day at Rowhill Grange, the treatments were lovely and the food was delicious! However, the 'Hydro Pool' was not warm and we could not spend any length of time in there as we had hoped. This was very disappointing. I have been to other Spas and experienced hot 'hydro pools' where you could spend long periods of time in comfortably.
Also drink service in the pool area was not obvious (telephone on wall with no sign to place order) and unfortunately alcoholic drinks were not allowed around the pool.
Overall however the spa was of a high standard and good value for money, I just missed those factors mentioned, which I have experienced elsewhere.
My wife and I had our third visit to Rowhill today and as a whole we were not impressed, best part of the day was the treatments, we both had feet, back, shoulder and head massage, my masseuses name was Grace and I must say she was great, very professional and friendly, the only complaint I have about this area is that all the water dispensers were empty even though we kept being told to drink plenty of fluids after the treatments, my wife did point this out to one of the staff members only to be told to walk to the gym Two rooms away as their was water in there instead of maybe apologising and refilling the empty dispensers ! The service overall was quite slow eg: when we arrived at the spa reception we waited nearly ten minutes for someone to come and check us in, after being checked in we were offered a complimentary tea or coffee which we ordered and waited for in the bar area, after a further ten minutes we asked how long the tea was going to be to which were told it’ll be a further 5 minutes. It was now forty minutes into our visit and we hadn’t even been shown the changing rooms yet so not good so far. When we did get changed in what I can only call a decidedly messy changing room (towels and robes discarded around the seating and floor) I then had to try three different lockers before I found one that actually locked, I then proceeded into the pool/hot tub area, this was clearly the most neglected part of the establishment as it was in dire need of refurbishment (peeling paint, blown plaster and even a whole in the ceiling), my wife and I then went into the steam room and sat down, unfortunately my wife let out yelp and jumped up having burnt herself on a very hot seat, upon further and closer inspection we saw a rather small warning sign saying to be careful as this seat could get hot but it was very hard if not nearly impossible to see in a room full of steam so pretty useless really. Then it was into the relaxation room which was not very relaxing simply because it seemed to be being used a a through route for staff and clientele, it’s not very relaxing when literally every couple of minutes you can hear the annoying sound of a door opening and closing then flip flops walking the length of the room then yet another door opening and closing.
Last but not least we had the Afternoon tea which we both thought was below par, the sandwiches were definitely not fresh (they were very Dried out), the cakes were nice but they and the scones were about half the size of the ones we had last time we visited. (£25 each for tea, 4 tiny finger sandwiches and a few bite sized cakes)
So to summarise we can only say that the place is in somewhat of a decline and we probably will not be frequenting there again, this place is definitely not cheap and therefore not good value for money, there are much better places around for the sort of money they charge !

The treatments and therapists were outstanding, however the lunch menu was not as expected Or as shown on their website so had to pay to order off The bar menu with a slight discount. Also we had the lunch option and they put lunch at 2pm considering our day is 9-3 this didn’t really work. After a few discussions they did change it for us to allow us to eat earlier which was great. The staff don’t always seem to be on the same page with one person giving you one lot of advice and another saying the opposite so probably best to find out additional costs and treatment times etc before arrival to avoid the stress on the day. The spa is lovely which is small and intimate however can feel very small when it got busy. Overall the treatments are worth the cost.
All 6 of us headed to the spa shortly after check in to enjoy it before our treatments. There were no beds available for us to sit on in a group and only 2 available in the whole place which was a shame. We enjoyed the steam room but there is a section of seating under which the steam is emitted and you have to be very careful of as it gets extremely hot and could burn you. The pool with the jets is nice but the jacuzzi is quite small which meant we had to wait until it was totally empty to get all of us in. The treatments were all good and we felt very relaxed afterwards.
When we first arrived rowhill grange were not aware of our booking we had to wait 40 mins or so before they were able to fit us in luckily the staff managed to fit us in and they sorted it out
One of the best spa days. Venue, spa, lunch and massage could not have been better. A special mention to the chef for a lunch which not only looked spectacular but had textures and tastes to match.
All staff in spa and dining room well trained and friendly.
One suggestion: only one towel provided at reception. No extra towels in spa. After a swim and before lunch towel was wet. Had to go back upstairs to reception to get towels for showering.
The Spa was wonderful, pools were fantastic the only gripe was that I was booked in for a 40 minute massage, this didn’t last more than 30 minutes. Felt a bit cheated. Only 10 minutes but still felt cheated. 😟
Absolutely loved the hotel and spa facilities. There were a couple of issues with one of the treatments and a mix up with our afternoon tea however the staff were very quick to rectify it and went to great lengths to ensure we left feeling that we had a spa day to their high standards.
My friend and I had a wonderful day, the staff are very friendly and welcoming, happy to help with any request.
Beautiful facilities, the treatment rooms are very comfortable.
My treatment with Paulina B was particularly fantastic, a very knowledgeable therapist who clearly takes great pride in her work.
We'll definitely be back, thank you :)
When we arrived early we were offered a complimentary hot drink, and shown around the spa. The facilities are amazing and you are provided with a robe and towel. The big pool was lovely, clean and quiet, there is a good jacuzzi, warm pool and sauna and steam room. The treatment I received was nice and the two other guests I was with thoroughly enjoyed theirs. The only drawback with my back massage was that the therapist seemed very inexperienced however everybody has to start somewhere! We then laid in the relaxation room (people do walk through for treatments frequently). We then showered (you are provided with lovely shampoo and conditioner and face toiletries) and had dinner. My dinner was initially uncooked however staff were very apologetic and rectified this, the cooked meal was delicious. A lovely twilight spa experience!
We had a lovely relaxing day
Pluses
Made to feel welcome on arrival and throughout the day
Quality of food was good
The treatments were excellent
Negatives
During the treatment there was staff chatter/laughter outside the room which disturbed the relaxation!!
Would have be nice to be provided with footwear in the spa area
Rowhill Grange spa facilities looking tired, in need of some TLC.
Afternoon tea was poor, sandwiches were stale and cakes were awful.
Need to advise when booking treatments that you can’t use the sauna etc for —2 hours after having had a facial treatment!!
Disappointing on the whole.
This was a special treat for me and my two daughters. We had the most wonderful day, one we will all remember for a long time. Our treatments were excellent, the therapists all first class. We were all really pampered wonderfully. The food, we felt did not come up to the same standard of luxury. The service in the diningg room, however, was very good. We will certainly be returning to Rowhill Grange and would recommend it to friends.
The stay at the hotel was fine. We have encountered some issues but staff happy to help! Room comfortable and nicely decorated. Massive bed. In my opinion a mini fridge should be essential in the room.
We had a lovely welcome at the reception and were checked in quickly. We then headed to the spa via the bar and enjoyed our first cocktails. We had our second post the spa, all very enjoyable and the halloumi fries were delicious.
The rooms were really comfortable and spacious with hanging space and a nespresso coffee machine which is always appreciated. The only negative was the shower. It had no door so all the water, whether you were in or out of the shower, went all over the floor and I nearly slipped over despite having already dried most of it.
The staff were really helpful with the cake and decorations we brought with us and helped to make my friend's 50th birthday very special. The wine list is good and although it's not cheap had some lovely wines to choose from. We had our final cocktails in the bar after supper to end the night in style. The bar closed at 11am, the staff don't stay up until you go to bed which was no doubt a good thing for our heads the next day!
In the morning there was a breakfast buffet and cooked menu. The buffet was fine and the cooked breakfast options were good and delicious when they arrived. Specific coffee is chargeable on top but there is normal and decaf filter coffee included.
All in all, we had a really lovely afternoon/night/morning there and would definitely go back.
We booked a last minute break through Spa Breaks...only to find the same package £20 cheaper booking direct through the hotel! We arrived on what has been the hottest day of the year so far. Were greeted by friendly staff and given a tour of the hotel. Entered the room, which was a 'comfy king' room therefore several upgrades from a 'standard' room and I can only describe it as basic. There is no air con- however a small incredibly noisy fan located in the wardrobe. No mini fridge or other amenities you would expect to find in a £400pn package room. Spa facilities were nice, smaller than I imagined from pictures but nice. Then with our package we had a £35pp allowance towards dinner at the restaurant. We arrived at 7.45pm and ordered promptly however lots of other tables were receiving their food before us, despite us ordering first. After waiting 40 minutes for our mains to arrive I asked the waiter whether our meals had been forgotten about and he stated the chef had a 'backlog'. However it seemed other tables weren't effected by this backlog? Then the £30 fillet steak arrived which was the size of 2 50ps and both meals were warm. I should have complained at this point however with a very socially anxious companion this wasn't a viable option. Overall we were very disappointed. The hotel did not live up to expectation at all and feel the rooms require some much needed upgrading.
We had the perfect stay here in the Rowhill Grange! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the location was beautiful. The restaurant was nice however our main course took over an hour, despite other couples coming in after us and receiving their main course before us. The spa was clean and the massage we received was also lovely.
