In East Sussex, the town of Uckfield sits on the River Uck. A fairly newly built town, it’s transport links have made it a convenient place to head to for short breaks, spa days or weekend getaways.
An unassuming location, Uckfield is notorious for being the place where the mysterious Lord Lucan was last seen, but it’s not the first mystery that the town holds. The hoax of the Piltdown Man occurred in the nearby village of Piltdown and there’s a tale of Nan Tuck's Ghost, in which an old witch is said to have lived in a wood nearby.
Myths and legends aside, Uckfield is not short on things to do. The Bluebell Railway is a popular destination, especially for families, with its 1882 steam train to ride on. Sheffield Park and Garden invites you to explore historic parkland and landscaped grounds, Ashdown Forest is an enchanting place for a walk, and there are several golf clubs in the area as well.
Spas in and around Uckfield give you the opportunity to relax with friends, family or on your own, whether you have a day or a few days to unwind. East Sussex National Golf Resort and Spa is a particular favourite - a modern hotel, it has a contemporary spa and an excellent golf course with views of the South Downs.
