Famous for its castle, which looms on the landscape as you arrive into this historic town, Windsor is a very special place for a spa day or break.
Windsor Castle itself has been a fortress and a home to the British Royal family since it was built by William The Conqueror in the 11th century. The exquisitely pretty town circles around the castle. Steeped in history, its cobbled streets are home to cafes, shops and restaurants, while its location on the banks of the River Thames merely add to its sense of magic.
There is an enormous amount to see and do in Windsor and the surrounding area. Perhaps most notably is a visit to Windsor Castle itself, which is open to visitors throughout the year. It is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world - home to 39 monarchs and counting. A ramble in Windsor Great Park is always a joy. It offers 4,800 acres green space where red deer roam, a three-mile-long tree-lined path guides you round, and you can spot statues and rare plants as you go.
More contemporary additions to the area include LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort as well as the Windsor and Eton Brewery. Equally, wandering through town, taking it all in and even taking the Thames footbridge over to Eton for a bit, is a lovely way to spend the day.
Spas in Windsor and the surrounding Berkshire countryside offer a range of charming spa days and spa breaks. In particular, the illustrious Fairmont Windsor Park, which sits appropriately on the edge of Windsor Great Park, is a luxury spa experience like no other. Nearby favourites also include Macdonald Berystede Hotel and Spa, as well as Donnington Valley.
