The only market town in the North York Moors National Park, Helmsley is full of history, character and impressive architecture, all with easy access to a world of natural beauty. It’s the perfect accompaniment to a spa day or break.
Nature lovers delight in the National Centre for Birds of Prey, while history is abundant, not least at Helmsley Castle. The Helmsley Arts Centre and the Walled Gardens are definitely worth exploring, and with award-winning restaurants as well as the town’s own brewery, you can be sure of superb food and drink throughout your stay. The local shops and galleries are also worth exploring for gifts and retail therapy.
Set in the National Park, it would be a shame to miss out on exploring beyond the town itself as well. Helmsley is well placed for walkers, cyclists, dog-owners and horse-riders to head out and explore the great outdoors, especially on sunnier days.
Spas in and around Helmsley make excellent use of the area’s reputation for historic charm, superb food and drink as well as excellent hospitality. For example, head to the Feversham Arms, a luxury bolthole that’s perfect for couples or friends, and welcomes dogs to stay in the rooms as well.
