A large town in Bedfordshire within easy reach of London, Luton is a great destination for spa goers and has an abundance of attractions and activities close by.
In addition to being accessible by road, its train station takes you straight into the city if you so wish. There’s also Luton Airport in case you fancy a spa break before jetting off to sunnier climes. That said, Luton has its own history and attractions as well. Historically it became famous for hat making - these days it’s better known for producing cars.
Just a stone’s throw from the commuter connections however, and visitors will find parks, things to do and history to explore. For example, Stockwood Park is a 100-acre estate with walled gardens and a golf course to explore. Whipsnade Zoo is not far away and the Dunstable Downs give you an exquisite view of the Chilterns. Visit Shaw’s Corner, the country home of Nobel Prize-winning Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw, where a calendar of outdoor plays are held in the summer, or head to Someries Castle, a 15th-century fortified manor house.
Spa hotels in the area offer the same easy access and sense of escapism. In particular, Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf and Spa is a magnificent country house hotel. It’s the height of luxury, making it perfect for romantic escapes and it’s surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens to walk in.
