Grantley Hall

8.0 Very Good (4 reviews)

If you listen carefully you may still be able to hear the dulcet tones of Dame Vera Lynn echoing through the halls at this illustrious country house hotel. Grantley Hall has played host to the good and the great across the centuries, and while its style remains in keeping with its 17th century roots, it’s also very much the height of modern hospitality. No stone is left unturned when it comes to luxe details, from a sensory feast at dinner, to its own Gatsby-style night club, and the magnificent, purpose-built Three Graces Spa and Elite Luxury Gym.

Space and style are the best words to describe the magnificent Three Graces Spa and Elite Luxury Gym at Grantley Hall. A purpose-built environment where the design is sympathetic to the history of the hotel, but purposeful in its own right, it caters to modern wellbeing with old school charm. The 18-metre indoor swimming pool is surrounded by columns and neatly spaced loungers offering plenty of space. Take a dip in the indoor to outdoor hydrotherapy pool, enjoy the thermal experiences available in the sauna, steam room and snow room or work out in the gym before unwinding in a tranquil relaxation area. You should also feel free to dedicate the whole day to time in the spa as it even has its own restaurant. The Three Graces Spa Lounge is a magnificent space that offers a beautiful range of healthy, nutritious drinks and snacks throughout the day, where you can watch the world go by on the outdoor terrace.

Treatments in the spa continue the dedication to holistic modern wellbeing. Aimed at achieving a sense of luxury and equilibrium, they use award-winning British spa brand ila to deliver a collection of face and body treatments fusing bespoke techniques with ancient wisdom, attaining deeper levels of balance. These are accompanied by therapies from pioneering luxury Spanish skincare brand Natura Bissé, which embodies sophisticated elegance, efficiency and feminine intuition using avant-garde technologies alongside effective skincare products.

Country houses in Yorkshire are the stuff that Jane Austen novels are made of and none epitomise the magic of a good book more than Grantley Hall. The perfect balance of historic and contemporary, you pass through the gates and make your way down a meandering drive to reach this 17th century property, which has been home to some of the most characterful aristocrats as well as playing host to their abundant royal and political friends across the years. It has welcomed Dame Vera Lynn to sing, and has been painted by many an artist, including LS Lowry. It is little wonder that the property has provided such inspiration for guests, with decadent rooms ranging from Deluxe to the Royal Suite. All enjoy luxe details such as garden views and marble bathrooms, a subtle but chic colour palette and original period features.

Surrounded by Yorkshire’s abundant larder of local ingredients, dining at the hotel is a joyful experience and a feast for the senses. Go on a culinary journey at celebrity chef Shaun Rankin’s fine dining offering, indulge in pan-Asian fare at Bar and Restaurant Eighty Eight, set against an outstanding backdrop of ornamental Japanese gardens. Enjoy casual but sophisticated cuisine at Fletchers Restaurant, heritage style at Norton Bar and Courtyard, Gatsby-style glamour and late night partying at Valeria’s subterranean den, healthy dishes in the Three Graces Spa Lounge, and afternoon tea in the Drawing Room.
