Surrounded by 120 acres of seemingly endless Yorkshire countryside, Aldwark Manor Golf and Spa Hotel is the former Victorian home that was built by Lord Walsingham as a wedding present for his daughter. Today the hotel has 53 bedrooms divided between the Old Hall, where guests enjoy four-poster beds and traditional furnishings; and the Contemporary Wing.
There are multiple dining options at the hotel, including The Terrace with its bistro-style dishes and alfresco seating area. For drinks and afternoon tea with a view of the golf course, the Squadron Bar is also popular.
Booked the treatments in advance on line as I was asked to do..and got confirmation.
Yet got there and was asked to pick again?
Then the lady came and said we have nobody that can do nails or toe nails so I had to pick something else. Very frustrating when you are expecting a certain treatment that has been booked.
The treatments we got were fine.
The spa was fine. Not very busy, lovely staff who explained where everything was. My only criticism would be that the changing rooms could do with a revamp too, maybe this is due with the other work going on at the hotel. A good day.
The receptionist was wonderful dealing with our group of 11 and making sure we had everything we needed. I had 3 high quality treatments and enjoyed the use of the pool and the sauna and steam rooms as well as the dedicated spa relaxation area. We were given access to a separate spa changing area with its own showers which also enhanced the experience. I highly recommend this spa and hope to visit it again in the future.
We have two full body exfoliation and back massage. These where wonderful and very very relaxing. The facilities where lovely, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna all in good condition. The staff where very friendly and welcoming
Disappointing
Facilities were just ok.
Need a deep clean.
Considering the amount paid for a day of relaxation the cleanliness of the facilities was poor.
Treatment itself was lovely but that's the only aspect we enjoyed.
Will not be returning and would not recommend Aldwrk manor for a Spa day.
I spent the day with my daughter which had been a birthday gift. Check in was a little slow as there was only one receptionist. The pool area was pleasant although there isn't much room around it for loungers. The steam room was 'broken' and so unavailable. Lunch was enjoyable soup, chicken caesars salad and cheesecake. My head and shoulder massage at £44 was rather overpriced. Massaging only the front area was somewhat pointless as that is a rather boner part of the anatomy. The head massage was more like a hair massage. I have had better at the hairdressers! I enjoyed spending the day with my daughter but won't be returning to the spa at Aldwark.
This was a birthday present which I’d booked for my partner so we were both excited and really looking forward to it and whilst the massage itself was very good quality, none of the staff at the spa made our time there a nice experience. We didn’t find them friendly or welcoming, they didn’t even smile and barely made eye contact so because of that we will not be returning to the hotel.
We both really enjoyed our experience and will come again. It was a marvelous experience as I had never had a spabreak before. We found the venue easily and found all members of staff very good and helpful. They explained things to us and showed us where to go. Thank you all for a really enjoyable experience and as I said we will be comin g again. Jean Walker
Very welcoming staff,
Excellent massages and facilities are very relaxing.
Me and my boyfriend went for a package which included a "light lunch." It was far above our expectations! Food was absolutely delicious!
Very good value for money, would recommend to anyone
It was my daughters 21st birthday surprise unfortunately there were no mention of this from staff or therapist who saw her DOB no balloons nothing that was very disappointing as it was a special birthday and it was mentioned when booking
I would return though and make use of the gym facilities next time
Good value for the cost
We visited the spa as a package deal staying overnight in the hotel too. The spa facilities were very good, all very clean. The pool was lovely & warm, everything you would expect, steam room , sauna etc. The staff were very friendly & helpful & the choice of treatments was very good. The changing facilities were all very clean & plenty of room. Overall a really lovely stay
Super massage by Caroline. Spa spoilt as could not get in pool for a while due to an aqua aerobics class going on. Also there were some unruly kids in the pool whose parents were useless. Have been here 3 times but feel I might look elsewhere in future .
Spa has pool, jacuzzi , steam and sauna, pool and jacuzzi could do with good clean very grubby and dirty looking, enjoyed the exfoliating and back massage jasmine was excellent but my husband did not the lady who looked after him, quite room smelt very fusty and damp, only drinks and Mars and oat bars to choose from in cafe, would be better if had more choice., does not measure up to other spas in Yorkshire.
Really good however, not nice view to see cotton wool flying all over the gardens from the fan. Also everyone else had gone through for their treatment at 12pm and nothing was said to me while I was waiting, so I had to go up to the reception desk to ask and she then told me the therapist was running late. Therapist was friendly, nice treatment and the senior lady at the desk was helpful in giving me details for our spa lunch etc.
The food was very dry and boring in presentation. Facilities : lack of chairs round the pool could do with a little bit of updating in certain areas a little bit neglected but overall a decent place
The staff here are very friendly. I've had the 60min experience twice now and its fabulous. I do think individual treatments outside of the spa break are a bit expensive though. The relaxation room is a nice touch too.
Myself and my husband had a lovely day the only downside was when we went for a drink in the bar and was met by a very unhelpful young man who didn't seem interested in our needs we also had to go and find someone in the first place. We ordered a cream tea and the scone tasted as though it had been made a week before stale
Lovely friendly staff. Treatments were good value and extremely relaxing. Food was delicious although you could cater better for vegetarians at breakfast time with proper vegetarian sausage! We had a relaxing, fun stay that was good value for money. Loved💕💕💕 the relaxing room and smells of oils. Thanks xx
The pool is fantastic, and a warning sign had been out our re a broken tile which was very good. I enjoyed the experience, but the only comment I would have is that we didn’t get robes, my therapist said these were extra. Also she didnt ask what type of massage I wanted, so it was far too gentle for my taste. She was very friendly though.
Pool changing rooms too small and pool All areas needs a refurb looked shabby Couldt get in hot tub cos full . Same group of ladies stayed in for over an hour
My therapist wasn’t friendly and didn’t introduce herself. Was meant to be 50 minutes treatment it was about 30 max. Will not be going back
Initial Spa member of staff we were greeted by was rude and unhelpful.
Robes not available due to “busy weekend”, even though this is part of the package.
Relaxation room was not maintained, so had wet unmade beds.
Treatments were not as described.
Spa facilities needed maintainence, shower out of use, damage to the tiling in the pool. Jacuzzi not cleaned.
Enjoyable and good treatment. Rooms are good quality. Pool large enough to swim. Robes for all sizes of clients which is not the case at every spa. Will definitely go again.
The treatments were great can’t fault the staff however the steam room was tepid at best, the decor and condition of the pool area was tatty. One of the showers by the pool was not working. The water in the jacuzzi was soupy.
the spa is looking a bit tired since our last trip 2yrs ago, chipped paint in treatment rooms pegs fallen off wall in swimming pool so no where to hang towels and dressing gowns, people putting them on loungers so then no one can use them, also a lack of seating.
The cafe area had some cloth seats which people had sat on in wet clothing so a few of us got wet jeans, perhaps not practical for this area.
Some of us were told about the relaxation room and others weren't it was full of used glasses blankets strewn around and generally untidy.
My treatment was good others said there's was rushed and nothing like an hour
Some of us were told we had a private changing area for our party other weren't.
There were 3 of us and instead of one of use waiting while the others had treatments it was arranged to have 3 therapists so we could all have our treatments at the same time. They rooms were lovely, calming music, heated beds and we all came out of our treatments relaxed and rejuvenated! We were then shown to the relaxation lounge where we laid on lovely comfortable beds for as long as we liked! Simply amazing and my friends and I can’t wait to return!
Super easy Theo booked everything so all was taken care of didn't have to panic or rush and knew exactly what we were doing and when. Would definitely recommend.
The hotel is in a lovely setting. The problem is they are refurbishing it at the moment so everything is a bit mixed up. The normal restaurant is out of use and you are put in a small dining room. Dinner was fine but breakfast was chaotic. I think we all arrived at the same time but the manager left us for over 20 minutes before taking our hot food order...and that was only because I asked him.
I have stayed before and I do think the refurbishing is making it a different experience than normal.
The spa is excellent with a lovely pool and very good therapists providing top quality treatments. The hotel staff are friendly and very helpful and rooms are clean, well kitted out and comfortable. The only negative I'd that the food is not 4 star hotel standard. Some of the meals were very basic and slightly overcooked and service was very slow at points. It took s long time to have our wine delivered to the table and on our second night we had to collect our own water from a central area I the dining room. However I would definitely use this hotel again. The village and pub are lovely (the pub food is a higher standard than the hotel) and the hotel is located in a beautiful situation with walking straight from the door.
We booked a spa break for our anniversary. The hotel was in the most beautiful location, picture perfect i fact and had it not been raining we would have loved to explore the grounds. We stayed in one of the suites which was absolutely stunning. The hotel was like a big stately home and you where made to feel so welcome. The bar area was filled with big sofas and chairs and tables and was just a home from home. Very relaxing.
Had a lovely experience at Aldwark Manor. All the staff in the hotel & spa were very friendly and helped with enquiries very quickly & effectively. The room was lovely, and very clean. Would definitely stay again!
Lovely stay, only comment is that staff did not seem well trained or supervised by senior staff. Just small things like not being able to answer questions about the menu, slow service at times, different people asking if we wanted to order drinks after we'd ordered. Everyone was lovely and that's the only thing I think could be improved.
The staff in the hotel made the stay very enjoyable.”Jimmy” on reception was very helpful and friendly.
The room was really comfortable but we found mould marks around the bath and it needed a new shower curtain.Overall the hotel was a nice place to stay in nice surroundings but wouldn’t rechoose to visit the spa.
The hotel is in a beautiful setting, very peaceful & quiet. Lovely atmosphere, very relaxing. Everywhere was clean, some parts were tired & needed a bit of tlc but it’s an old building with lots of original features so it was to be expected to be honest.
Our bedroom overlooked the golf course which was lovely, however we did have a problem with the tv working, the staff were amazing though & relocated us to another bedroom with no problems at all, in fact it turned out to be an Upgrade! We had a 4 piece bathroom suite, Juliet balcony and a mini bar which was free! The bedrooms are clean, spacious, all usual facilities, tea coffee etc present. The mattress could of probably done with an upgrade but was still ok.
We ate in the restaurant, the menu has lots of choices & is very reasonable, the service was outstanding, every need catered for, the staff worked really hard. The meal itself was delicious and you weren’t rushed at all, it was lovely. The breakfast in the morning was self service with so much choice, again the service was great. Would definitely stay here again, 2 nights next time though!
Had a lovely overnight spa stay with my best friend for her 60th birthday. Had a super massage by a lovely lady called Caroline. We were disappointed when we had to wait 45 minutes on the Monday for our sandwich lunch in the bar and in fact left early and went elsewhere for afternoon tea. Also disappointing there was no dress code for dinner. People were coming into dinner in tatty jeans which made you feel you were in a burger bar rather than a smart hotel. The staff were super at the hotel. Overall a nice stay .
The accommodation needs to be refurbished, new carpets because they are threadbare bathroom update to accommodate separate shower because bath a little high and worn to climb in, meal was adequate but service from staff who mostly did not speak much english was not sure of what they was doing so need training which overall left us disappointed because location is lovely.
The hotel was dated furniture and decor requires updating/replacing.Furniture in the bar area and sitting room was Dusty and dirty.Tables were greasy and not cleaned after meals had been eaten.
Rooms were basically clean on initial inspection but fixtures were dusty cob webs on ceilings near window above one of the beds. Two glasses were available for a room booked for three.cups/mugs were not the same.we have been to this hotel before and we were very disappointed about the cleanliness and attention to detail this time.
Another great spa break, just what was needed after a heavy family party the night before! Great facilities, and the spa treatment was great. 2nd visit to this hotel, and I can see there being a 3rd...
We had a fabulous stay at this hotel. The staff go out of their way to help you and are very friendly. The location is superb. The restaurant staff work so hard, just not enough of them which is s shame fir those who are there running around.
Rooms were dirty, cobwebs covered in dust. Dirty carpets and curtains. Bathroom was not clean either, hairs visible in plug hole and around the bath.
Spa area was in need of lots of maintainence.
Brasserie - chairs dirty and service was lacking.
Staff brilliant. Daughter was taken ill had to hospital staff brilliant. Then my car had a flat battery staff brilliant quick response by Nicky on reception
The hotel is looking a little tired and could do with a full refurb. Our room was lovely but screws missing on the bath panel shower curtain old and yellow and not long enough. carpet ripped in places. Our experience at dinner was not very good the menu is uninspired and the food not up to the standard we have come to expect from this hotel. The chairs in the restaurant were tatty wobbly and uncomfortable
The staff in the bar lounge area were extremely slow seemed to keep disappearing.
Lunch the good was nice but took over an hour for us to get it when the restaurant wasn't busy some other guests left, the waitress said it was because they didn't have enough of the lunch boxes they had to wait for some people to finish for more boxes!! We never got asked if we wanted a drink we had to ask for a jug of water we didn't bother asking for bar drinks as we could see other people having long waits and 2 ladies taking drinks back!
Because lunch took so long some of our party didn't have time to use the pool etc before treatments.
Our deal Inc.a bottle of rose fizz in each room but it wasn't there so we had to ask and show our booking confirmation, we had also booked dinner at 7.30pm and they had no record of this so we were offered a different time.
Dinner was v nice and the staff were efficient.
Breakfast was also good
General cleanliness is not good carpets looked not hovered recently and dirty tables.
Bedrooms also not particulary clean our bathroom had shavings in sink and a hairy floor especially round the edges, it's a shame as the rooms are very nice and the hotel in general is but there is a lack of staff training and management of staff.
Accomdation was very good, The spa facilitys itself where also very good enjoyed the loungers at the poolside reading, What let me down the most was the Dinner which was awful, both dinners, i had the fish my partner the chicken dish, Didn't let it bother me too much as the staff where very nice - The brekafast the next morning was again awful There was green mould on the bacon under the heat lamps which i had to take out ? How nobody noticed was beyond me ! so that but me my partner and another guest off the hot food so i just kept with the yogurt and some pancakes. The chefs need abit of a look into i reckon, quality dos'nt seem to be at its highest especially at the price i paid for everything!
We visited Aldwark manor for an over night spa treat for my friends 40th birthday. It was a stunning country setting, gorgeous fires with big comfy chairs, stunning food, amazing spa treatments and lovely clean facilities. We stayed over night but left feeling resdreshed and relaxed like we’d been there for a week! Couldn’t recommend enough!
Beautiful hotel in a fantastic location. Room quality was excellent but required more attention to detail with regard to housekeeping and maintenance. Indeed overall the hotel required a good clean. The staff service was excellent but the food was fairly basic and ordinary.Anything drinks from the bar or restaurant were expensive.
