There are lots of reasons to visit the pretty market town of Tring in Hertfordshire for a spa break. From its very own arm of the Natural History Museum to the Grecian summer house in Tring Park, its historic streets and easy going vibe all lend themselves to rest, relaxation and quality time with loved ones.
Tring sits on the edge of the Chiltern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) stretching from Goring-on-Thames to Hitchin across Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, and Bedfordshire. The town has a rich history; it has Roman links, the Manor of Tring is described in the Domesday survey of 1086, it received its charter from King Edward II in 1315 and it even has connections with the ancestors of George Washington. The famous Rothschilds bought Tring Park in the 1800s and their influence continues today in the architecture of many of the houses and the 300 acre park, which many love to visit and that’s now cared for by the Woodland Trust.
Those travelling to Tring have a variety of activities to choose from to enhance and extend a spa day or break. We have already mentioned the Natural History Museum. For those who fancy a walk there’s also the National Trust’s Ashridge Estate. Take in the natural beauty of College Lake or Tring reservoirs, or head for a tour and tasting at Tring Winery.
Spas in the area offer rest, relaxation and plenty of luxury. Favourites include Pendley Manor Hotel, also described as ‘Hertfordshire’s hedonist hideaway’, as well as nearby Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa, which is known for five-star excellence.
